Kaleidoscope
The
kaleidoscope is an important symbol for Changemaking Systems'
perspective on change.
Look
through the end of a kaleidoscope and turn the other end. The
pattern of shapes and colors changes with each turn, over
and over again. Likewise, organizational patterns
can be reconfigured with each turn, with each thoughtful
intervention into the system.
Underneath
all apparent symptoms, there are underlying patterns and
fundamental causes connected to the symptoms. The
challenge is to identify and then explore the patterns
and search for the fundamental causes. Strategies
for change need to be directed to these causes if fundamental
change is to result. Likewise in strategic thinking,
after looking at the facts, there is need for "reconfiguration" of
the facts into new direction, new strategies.
This
elasticity of the mind is symbolized by the kaleidoscope. |
